This centre, which has emerged from an agreement between Madrid's Complutense University and the Carlos III Health Institute, is headed by Prof. Juan Luis Arsuaga. Here, the bones unearthed in Sima de los Huesos (Sierra de Atapuerca, Burgos) are carefully stored while they are analysed. Several technical and research lines in the Palaeontology and Human Evolution Area, the DNA area and the Neuroscience Area are being applied to this valuable material. Work on the restoration and conservation of the fossil record found in Sima de los Huesos in each year's dig is also done here.
