Detailed analysis of the H. antecessor bones also revealed exactly the same types of cut marks made by stone tools on the animal bones. Our scientists had found proof of cannibalism. The extraordinary discoveries made in the 2006 dig at the Gran Dolina site proved that a cannibal feast was held 800,00 years ago. At least 10 individuals, mostly children, were devoured by their congeners. All indications suggest that a Homo antecessor campsite was attacked by members of another group. This is the oldest evidence of antropophagy in human history.

The site was also occupied at levels TD 5, 4 and 3, while TD 2 and 1 are archaeo-palaeontologically sterile, i.e., periods when the cave was blocked off from the outside world.

Homo antecessor remains are still being discovered at Level 6, which is now going to be excavated horizontally. Level 10 is still being dug horizontally, with abundant remains of stone industry and fauna from over 300,000 years ago appearing.
