Presentation
The Atapuerca sites have become particularly important in recent years, capturing media headlines around the world due to the ongoing flow of discoveries. The international scientific community is now fully understands the scope of this unique archaeological complex, which has become a compulsory reference point in the study of the human presence and evolution in Europe.
The Atapuerca Foundation has always been keenly aware of the transcendence of the discoveries, as well as the fact that the sites are part of a first-rate historic, cultural and natural heritage ensemble. Since its establishment in July 1999, the Foundation has worked closely with the research and promotion activities of the Atapuerca research team.
The Foundation's aim is to provide continuity and broad organizational and financial backing for the research programme in Sierra de Atapuerca, as well as to promote cultural activities through channels which can capture funds and backing for highly effective interaction between the research team and the full range of social agents, helping to give the Atapuerca Sites the scientific and cultural projection they deserve as part of the UNESCO World Heritage network.
