Visiting the Site Access Centre (CAYAC)

CAYAC is in Ibeas de Juarros. This is the meeting point for visitors and the departure point for shuttle buses to the sites. CAYAC also has a permanent exhibition, "Sierra de Atapuerca, natural and cultural heritage", with graphic panels about the origins of the Sierra, the formation of the caves, the discoverers of the sites and caves, the animals and plants that live in these hills, and other details. There are also replicas of animals that inhabited the Sierra in the past and a selection of original fossils from different geological periods, part of Javier Castellano's collection, donated by the Emiliano Aguirre Palaeontology Foundation in collaboration with the Atapuerca Foundation. At the entrance to CAYAC there is a 3D model of the Sierra de Atapuerca area, and in the basement, a display about the mining railway.

To get to Ibeas de Juarros it's necessary to take the N-120 toward Burgos-Logroño. The center is found just past the village of Ibeas de Juarros when driving toward Logroño, just next to the National 120.
